Being a mom of an (almost) 8 year old girl, and a 6 year old boy, I couldn’t believe an 8 year old girl and her dad created something so awesome and it’s truly inspiring!

When Bailey was eight years old, she was watching the TV program Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey with her family. In that evening’s episode, the host and narrator Neil deGrasse Tyson said, “The planets, the stars, the galaxies, we ourselves and all of life—the same star stuff.” Bailey was so excited by this idea that she immediately went up to the family computer, opened a new document, and started writing what eventually became this book, so that she could share what she had learned with children everywhere.
Bailey worked with her father over the next year to develop a story that they felt would teach children this idea, along with other areas of science such as evolution and astronomy, most effectively. After various versions of the story, and feedback from numerous parents, scientists, and children, the story for My Name is Stardust was finalized.
Bailey Harris (now, age 12) and her father, Douglas, are on a mission to inspire a love of science and a sense of wonder about the universe with their Stardust series of books for young readers. The first book in the series, My Name Is Stardust, was launched through a highly successful 2016 Kickstarter campaign that raised over $20,000. My Name is Stardust was released in 2017 and has sold thousands of copies worldwide.
The success of My Name is Stardust has enabled Bailey and Douglas to help spread their passion for science to families around the world. While promoting their book at Book Expo in NYC in 2017, they were interviewed by Helen Little for The Public Library Podcast for iHeartRadio about science, education and literature. Douglas was also a featured expert panel speaker on Science and Education at BookCon 2017.
The second book in the series, Stardust Explores the Solar System, will be published in 2018. The book starts off with the Big Bang, explains the formation of our Sun and the planets, then takes young readers on an exciting ride through the Solar System.
The public will receive early access to the book through a Kickstarter campaign that will launch on January 30th. It will then be featured at Book Expo and BookCon in NYC in June, followed by an international book release in October!
Are you guys reading the same content I am? This little girl was my daughters age when she wrote her first book, which has sold thousands of copies!
When I first mentioned this to my kids, they didn’t believe me! Once I proved it, they were in awe! Ever since, they have talked about wanting to try and write a book like Bailey, what a inspiration huh?
This father-daughter duo is living out, what seems to most of us, like a far-fetched dream! To envision such a big goal at such a young age and then, not just let it blow away with wind, but actually act on it! This is the type of media I want my kids seeing and hearing about! This is the type of thing that can help inspire kids of all ages to strive to do well in school, to extend beyond just what they have to do, and go further than they ever thought possible!
This young girl and her Father are inspiring both kids and adults in more ways then, even they, probably realize!
Some of you may think that they must be doing this for the money, because that’s what our world mainly revolves around this day and time. However, by glancing at the Stardust Facebook page can give you a clearer look! You’ll see post after post of Bailey and her Father promoting Bailey’s friends new ideas and dreams! Supporting other young inspiring writers to reach for their dreams, because the sky’s the limit!
Not only is this book and it’s creators inspiring on that level, but it’s completely educational! This is going to help so many other young kids learn to love science, and not see it as just another subject required in school. Bailey wants kids to know the Importance of Science and how it actually applies to everyone, young and old!
I am so proud and in awe of this beautiful father-daughter duo and the amazing job they have done at creating this epic children’s book! I hope this series continues and even spans out to other subjects! I know my own oldest two kids cannot wait for the second book to launch!
Will you help me spread the love for Bailey and Douglas Harris and their epic book Stardust Explores the Solar System?
I would recommend this book for anyone with younger kids! If your child can’t read yet, read it to them! They will adore the fact that they can actually connect with the authors and understand fully what’s going on within the pages!
